Hyssop: A bitter, pungent mint generally used as a remedy for fever and bronchial infection. Also used to open pores to exit a fever. Hyssop has a skunk like smell which indicates opening passageways deep inside the body, skin and releasing heat through the skin, bringing cooling, lubrication, and cleansing fluids to interior organs.
Treats: Lice, eye and ear ailments, fetid breath, tonsillitis, sore throat, swollen glands of throat and neck, hoarseness, deep seated respiratory infections, dry cough, hot dry skin, colds, congestion, bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, pleurisy, wheezing coughs, high blood pressure, intestinal worms, evacuates the intestines and promotes good digestion, helps a tired liver, hepatitis, jaundice, spleen problems, swollen glands, kidneys not passing enough water, edema, amenorrhea, muscular aches, fibromyalgia, infantile paralysis, cuts, bruises (application of fresh leaves to skin), fever, scarlet fever, measles, typhoid fever, spotted fever,
Usage: Leaves and flowers removed from woody stalks and extracted in alcohol or water. (3-15 drops), tea used to gargle for tonsillitis, sore throat, and used to treat fevers. Syrups made with hyssop with sugar, honey or black treacle. Infusion made of 1 oz. Hyssop to 1 pt. Boiling water, stewed for 15 min. and given in 1 wineglass every hour during the day.
Personal Notes: I just planted my first plant this summer (2017). I’ve harvested and dried/stored in an air-tight container. I will concoct a syrup and report, as well as my success on tea mixtures
